I asked an author what happened to two of her characters and if they ended up together and she just goes, “Really, that’s up to you. I haven’t decided and there are a number of ways it could develop.”
well SORRY PETER VAN HOUTEN DIDN’T SEE YOU THERE
THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS
THIS IS WHY WE CAN ONLY HAVE FANFICTION
As a fan (and particularly as a fan of the author and series involved), I am in complete sympathy with the OP’s perspective on this.
As an author, I am also in complete sympathy with the author and her perspective.
HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK
IT’S LIKE A JEKYLL/HYDE THING
…or maybe I just feel okay about this because I already wrote the fanfic.
Further to my question of the weekend, I have just realized that what probably freaks most people out is that I stalk the INCARCERON and SAPPHIQUE tags looking for fellow Jared/Claudia shippers and when I find one I hurl myself upon their Ask box with a happy cry.
It has occurred to me that this may be a little unsettling to people who don’t know me. It may even be a little unsettling to people who DO know me.
I JUST HAVE A LOT OF JARED/CLAUDIA FEELS, OKAY?
*coughs behind hand, shuffles out in embarrassment*
“I am the monster parents tell their children about at night?”
T____T
This is actually giving me agonizing SAPPHIQUE feels, even though I’ve seen THOR twice and know perfectly well what the real context is.
Oh, Jared, honey, this isn’t going to be as easy as you think. But I still maintain that Attia’s wrong about you being too gentle.
(Argh! Back, fanfic bunnies! Back!)
I do this every day. The SAPPHIQUE tag is even sadder.
(And yes, finnattia, I ship them. Though I think Finn/Guilt has the edge there, and I’m not against Keiro/Attia either, because somebody needs to keep that boy in line.)
I want Tom Hiddleston to play Jared Sapiens in the Incarceron movie. I totally pictured him when I was reading the book. Here’s some description of his character…
At first she couldn’t find him. Then a shadow at the window moved and the darkness resolved into a slender shape that straightened from the viewfinder.
Dazzled, she withdrew her eye from the lens. When she turned to face him, tiny flickers of light blurred her sight, played over his tangle of dark hair, his narrow face and spare figure, the unlaced tunic under his robes.
“I knew the Earl had been expelled from the Academy.” he moved into the candlelight and she saw his green eyes catch the glimmer.
“Here.” his delicate fingers touched a key and the translation appeared.
Ironically, the very first time I heard of Tom Hiddleston was when concertoinc4, my fellow INCARCERON fan and ardent Jared/Claudia shipper, suggested he’d make a good Jared. At the time I hadn’t seen THOR so all I had to go by were a couple of stills, and I wasn’t sure. Now that I’ve seen both THOR and THE AVENGERS, though, I am sold. Not because Loki is anything like Jared (so very, very not) but because there’s no doubt in my mind that Hiddleston would do a brilliant job of the part.
I am deeply unimpressed with the idea of Taylor Lautner as Finn, however, and I’m also certain that a Hollywood treatment of the film would turn it into a giant Finn/Claudia fest and make Jared way older and less attractive — not to mention less essential to Claudia’s part of the narrative — than he is in the book. So I am not at all sorry that the movie hasn’t been made yet and probably never will be.
Also, in regard to the above quote, the first time I was reading INCARCERON and got to that description of Jared, I actually put the book down and said “GUH” right out loud. And by the end of the book, Jared Sapiens had tied Faramir for my favorite literary boyfriend.
Clearly, I have a Type.
